Arabization Project - Call for Volunteers

Let me get straight to the point, in Arabic we have no official reference to ICT( Information & Communication Tech. ) terms. As a result, we can't properly translate software interfaces, relevant books and other stuff in a standard manner.�

Relying on official entities to come up with official list is just not gonna happen. Here's my idea of how to tackle this issue:

Manage to get a comprehensive list of ICT terms in English
Work privatley with a small group of volunteers and translate the list
Once the list is translated, publish the list on a website
When you have something almost comprehensive, people will start referring to the list, and day by day, it'll become the official list.

So if anybody is interested leave a comment, I spoke to some people about this Idea, and I already have two volunteers.

I would like to particpate in such a subject. I work with the Knowledge Station Project, which is ICT for Community Devlopment www.ks.gov.jo
my mission was to establish a Community Moblilization Section for the project. and I frequently use ICT for development.

Arabeyes have done and still doing a great work in Arabization specially for *nix software. One of their project is QaMoose and its developed to help translation teams. I think its a great experience that could help a lot. I'm not too much pro arabization, but I can help as I can : project management, translation tools .. etc

This is the only possible approach. Once you have your own glossary, you can tell the relevant authorities that this is your proposal for a glossary, and that it will be used temporarily until they come out with an "official" one (which will probably never happen, there nothing as permanent as temporary things).
There are lists of words in English that can be used to start the work, as well as some theory about how words can be found (basically, enlarging the meaning of words that already exist).

Good idea - you need the right collaborative toolkit.

I suggest Drupal - open source.

Draft up in Forum, then move fair text to Book then turn into Fine Text then issue Final Text.
