That's a great movie Ammar.. bas ya allah shu depressing.. 6 minutes.. 6 fricking minutes! I can't believe it. And some of the answers.. Vatican 3end Pakistan? Nabeela 3beid winning an Oscar? French Revolution in the 1900's? AHHH! What can I say.. how sad..
The film is not fair. it makes fun of victims of the official institutions which failed the country. The film is incomplete, until Yahya Abdallah interviwes the minister of culture and minister of education and ask the WHY did they fail to put an acedmic system that produces good students and good citizens.
the filmmaker Yahya Abdallah is a teacher at a rich folks school so he knows not to piss off the ministry of culture and education. So again, as in most non-democratic countries, the citizen is the liablity and the system is always avoided, for fear of loosing that good job in the future or that money for a trip to a conference. Shame on us for making fun of the poor and the underprivilaged i am in a state of shock after watching this movie. i used to critisize the americans when i first came to the US cause they are very ignorant.I always kept arguing that even an uneducated person in the arab world is much more cultured than people with phd's here in US. But it seems i was VERY wrong. I am soooooo disappointed. Allah Yekhaleelna Nancy 3ajram!!!!!!
OH MY GOD!!I can't believe it!!This movie is really shocking and made me feel sad, the only thing ALL of the interviewed knew is Nancy 3ajram!!I don't know what to say!!It's a great pity..
What's more serious than the stupid answers, is the confidence some of the people answered some stupid answers. We are not taught to say "I don't know". Most people are ignorant, however what is worse is to pretend to be well-knowledgable.
And no big surprise from the answers, although considering Iran as an Arab country was a bit of a shocker to me! Ammar, I have heard a radioshow, that was talking about Israel book week, they are apparently one of the nations that reads most in the world... they sell around 36 million books a year... and irnonically we read six minutes, while each Israeli rads six books! no wonder...
We need to start similiar campaigns in Jordan. People MUST start reading.
Thank u guys, can we have a high rez version?
Imagine if it was played on tv screens? mmmm... seeing this video made me arouse my attention to the fact that we're almost loosing our identity.. coz when a person doesn't know these valuable information about the world he's living in, well, then he mustn't live.. coz all of these info's are related to our beings.. at least let us know who we are and where we come from so "someday we can stand against all the odds"
To all those who dream of affecting change, this will be BY FAR our biggest challenge. A people who do not read will continue to live small lives, dream small dreams and worry about small things. They will never realize their full potential, and as such they will NEVER be free or equal...
It is true that no one person can do everything, but every one can do something. So spread the truth! It's your duty! (not a luxury you can opt to take or walk away from....) Dear All,
i do admit that we should know about berleskoni but hey we dont read, this is a big problem, but in Atlanta 1998. the whole nation in USA didnt know it was a world cup. ok here is a small test for the one who made the film (for sure i do thank you for all what you did) who are the following, dont tell me that you dont know them 1) Kent Beck. 2) Brian Tracy. 3) Paul Scheele. 4) Martin Folwer. 5) Zig Zigler They are key peoples in the world if you used the internet now to search for them, then you didnt know them in the first place the idea is that you are in media, and you should know about media information and we are in technology, and we need to know about technology and business it is not a shame for me not to know who got the oscar. as it is not shame on you to know who invented the object oriented programming. as i said, thank you for your effort, and i wish that you direct this effort to something to build in our community so you can start to give building information and not things that will make us feel bad about ourselves. what you need to know about japanese mangers that when they reduce the expenses and they have more money than planned, then they run out of the window. yes, we are still behind the people, but we need people like you to help us to move forward and not to self punish ourselves So sad and funny but true. Change will happen from individuals, so start by reading anything (local paper, magazines,..)and encourage your friends and loved ones to do the same.
This video must be sent to all past education ministers, to show them their achievements in educating our generations. It must also be sent to all parents, to feel proud of their outstanding suns and daughters.
We have absolutely reached the peak of intellectual deterioration. Yes this is quite depressing. However, I should say the movie does NOT establish evidence, and is not scientific in its approach. I am not denying the fact that readership rate in the Arab World is awfully low, but this is not the way to demonstrate it.
It is excatly this attitude of the producer towards the ones he interviewed that is not adding to development in the Arab World. He was dictating a certain path to reach the conclusions that he wanted. Of course, the sampling was awful. I think Nancy Ajram is doing good to the Arabs, more than the Islamists and left are doing, more than the governments are doing and more than parents are doing. When we reach the post-Nancy age, students in universities will have stopped thinking constantly of their deprived sexual life, because hopefully they will be no more restless as we will witness a normal relation between females and males. Then, students will read... the society will read... But for now, someone has to make all the Nancy and Haifa phenomenon and experience something normal... Strangly it is Nancy and Haifa that are working on it... and not your beloved producer and his likes... Anyway. You and many middle class Arabs seem obsessed with the bogus theory that sex-deprivation an sexual repression as the source of all evil in the Arab world. Yet some of the most underdeveloped regions of the world (Africa, Latin America) have liberal sexual norms. If any, in Africa and some Asian and Latin American countries, promiscuity is the leading source of AIDS infections.
Bottom-line, there is NO obvious relationship between sexual habits and social development. Only in Arab middle class do we hear of these absurd theories. Don't get me wrong, it would be great if all we have to do is F--k more and you will be an advanced society with great cultural, economic, and political achievements. But the reality of the situation is that THERE IS no foundation to this silly theory. You are right. I might have taken it too far. Thanks anyway. To what class of Arabs do you belong my lord?
Salam,
I have just seen the clip and I TOTALLY disagree with the guy who made it, he is trying to show the Jordanian people as ignorant stupid people who only look for Empty Talk (7aki Fa’9i). What troubles me is that compared to the region, and even with Americans themselves, Jordanian people are very sophisticated with a lot of accurate political and social knowledge. The only country I’ve seen in the region which has slightly more intellect than us is Lebanon. I’ve seen a lot of surveys about political ignorance in the United States; one survey showed that the majority of the population didn’t even know who Dick Cheaney was! (He is currently the vice president!!!) I think the director sold Jordan cheap in his piece. Of course I am not saying we are perfect, but we should really thank God for the state we are in. As for the gentleman who suggested that “Nancy Ajram is doing good to the Arabs, more than the Islamists and left are doing”: It is people like you who encourage the American republican senator Thomas Tancredo to talk openly about “bombing Mecca” while knowing that people will be more interested with Nancy’s cleavage more than the safety of the holiest place on earth. _________________________________ You Never Gain Wheight from a Donut Hole. what you guys dont know that if you go to the usa and ask any body a question out of the united stats they well tell you i dont know ..and i have been living here for almost 10 years and when ever some body ask me where are you from? i say jordan they dont know where the hill that is or if its a country...what im trying to say is who you think Mr. ammar they know or read or have more knowlidg than jordanian people they are the dumbest people i have ever seen in my life ....arab people are very smart body..
at this time all arab are the same except small group of people at the end i dont have anything to say except that we are (arab) and what you do its what you get brothers
thank you its a nice out going i think this is a disaster ,really i lughed as a comedy movie but i have feeling that i wana cry ofcourse, we know now why the victory is not near to our omma(islamic, arabic) and why we are falling down ,i know that not 100% of the people are like this but most of them and thats for sure,
i think the solution is in encourging these poeple, relativts and freind in reading . of course the blame is on 2 parts on the media and on the person himself but it is the most on the person With all due respect to the efforts of this show; it unfairly targeted people on the street with questions that were poorly constructed. The movie and questions were stated in a way as if to ptove a preconceived conclusion.
Dont get me wrong I am not defending any of the people in your documentary and their knowledge. However, in general, Jordanians are a highly educated and aware people compared to other nations. If you have the time and are willing and able then I would suggest documentaries about the difficulties of daily life. The changing morals and values of our society, the massage parlors that are now in every corner.. there are many topics that concern me as a Jordanian. The proposed exploitation of our oil shale, the air pollution and using leaded gas, the genetically modified agriculture we seem to be supporting..etc To be quiet honest with you, when the people dont have to worry about where they are getting their next meal or how they will pay their tuition or rent, (and if they stop getting bombarded with these satellite networks), then maybe they will get a chance to read a novel or peotry. Culture usually comes second to economy, its a sad fact but human. When you have to trade the value of a book or groceries (And both are very expensive these days) then groceries usually win and you just turn a TV on and let it wash over you and perhaps let you forget about the days worries. Maybe Nancy Ajram is a relief much sought after listening to a news broadcast!! There is nothing wrong with listening to music or enjoying it , we might have taken it too far but lets address the bigger issues behind this. You made your point very elquently. The film is insensative to the poor. Had the same set of questions been asked to partons of an upscale Abdoun cafe or at the Applied Sciences University then the film would have been of of some value.
Some of the questions are hard to get especially if one is not interested in poetry or classical music and what the film maker considers common knowledge can be considered very specific by others (Except of course for silly things like Iran, The Vatican....etc). The funny thing is that if you ask similar questions to Americans you will get the same response rate.
Well friends... this is the truth!!! why we are always outbidding for our bad situation? Ok.. don't ask about Berloscuni and Vivaldi, but what about the Babylonian captivity? what about Cyprus? "Arabian" Iran? Amal Donkul? Mohamad Al Maghout? Are they living on Mars?
Can you tell me what the good thing you read last week? ....simple question, right? Newspaper dosen't make an educated person, neither media dose. One day, a man said: "Society is a knowledge, so the knowledge is power" (Anton Saada) Nowadays, the truly living societies are more depending on knowledge and idiology than materials. I'm so sad, depressed, tearful and truely helpless at the moment. Nothing can express what I feel.. This is going to be a long entry. I'm just passing through my thoughts about education. Everything I'm writing about is from my personal pain being brought

This morning when I read Ammar’s Six Minutes and watched the video he referred to, I was in shock and shame , although I had some laugh. Basically the piece, for those who do not understand Arabic, is about interviewing random people from Jordan...
